Sky's Portrait Artist of the Week
A montage of my drawings from one of the series, mainly using Conté pastel pencils on toned card, a favourite technique. The landscape of people's faces has always fascinated me
Drawing Lesley Garrett on Sky
Sequence of drawing on Sky's Portrait Artist of the Week. I have the still image on a tablet to the left of the drawing, then draw freehand from the image with no tracing, squaring up, or projecting the still. It gives me something of the experience of drawing from life.
Drawing from Zoom
Drawn as a member of Whitefield Painting Club using Zoom during lockdown. I can't remember if the model was live or whether we used a still image
Drawings from live television
A lockdown attempt to get nearer to the life drawing experience, which I'd prefer, I tried drawing from live television. BBC's Question Time was the very helpful as people don't move around too much
Greenfinch
A small acrylic painting on canvas from a photograph taken in the garden. I did do some drawings from life but small birds are never still, they're usually feeding, so for a detailed painting photographs are essential
Goldfinch freed
Gouache on board. Painted for a client in Australia whose wife had read the novel The Goldfinch and wanted a painting based on the Fabritius painting minus the chain
Bird montage
Four paintings of birds based on photographs I took of birds in or near our garden, the Heron was perched on a neighbour's roof. All done during the first Covid 19 lockdown
Drawing quick pencil portraits from life
Done at Bloom Coffee Co. in Bury before the pandemic
Rock stars
A montage of a series of six rock star portraits in acrylic on canvas
