Joan of Arc

Acrylic on canvas. A Joan of Arc inspired by the short story 'The Crossing of Herald Montjoy' by Rose Tremain, the centenary of limited women's suffrage in the UK, the stance of the model, her orange hair, european armour, and having a canvas alteady painted red. The face in the painting owes a lot to the French actress Caroline Proust, who always looks dishevelled and knackered in the police drama renamed 'Spiral' here in Britain; I was trying to avoid the heroic/saintly Amazons normally used to depict Joan.
