Planet and warehouse: 1st version

Oil on board. The first version of a painting commissioned by the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester. In the final version the smoke from the funnel was removed, the buffers were amended to the wooden ones of the original Planet class locomotives and more details were added to the track beds. Prints of the final painting may still be available from MOSI.
The reference for the painting was the beautiful working replica which runs from outside the museum and past the preserved Liverpool Road station, arguably the world’s first railway station.
